Joe,

I have to quote you in your respond to Sanusi. I think you have hit the nail
in the head now. This is exactly how every Gambian should feel and do
something about it. This is what I call positive anger that makes you feel
sick in the stomach. The anger that force you to get up and do something
about a very bad situation. The issues you raised are the same thing people
are raising back home; The Gambian today is very different from the Gambian
before. They are alert, politics is discussed at every level, and you will
really be surprised. People will tell you openly that Jammeh will rig the
elections and this is a headache for the people. I was really amazed by the
people’s determination and zeal to get rid of Jammeh. Of course there is
still the fear of being arrested and kill because people are very much aware
that a lot of killings are going on. I guess there should also be vigilance
report, you will be surprised the information you will get and the leads to
follow.
I raised the issue of the possibility to register the voters again in a more
sophisticated manner. The Ghanaian case is the best at hand, the whole
country was re-registered, it was a boring exercise for everyone but it paid
off. After the exercise more than a million voters where discovered to be
unqualified voters whom Rawlings brought from the neighboring Togo to vote.
When these exercise was on going the borders were closed, people who where
eligible to vote were given enough notice to cross and register. The voting
cards and process of registration was very sophisticated even though the
Rawlings camp was crying foul. The electoral commissioner was the same
person sent to help in the Liberian election. They guy was a hard rock to
crack.
I guess we should kick start the debate what can we do to help the
opposition, if we all agree here that the goal is to get rid of Jammeh. We
have only a month to go and it is never too late.
Despite this I still have the hope even if the opposition gets the majority
in parliament; it will be enough to vote him out through parliament. Even if
he rigs and come back the struggle continues!!! It took Ghana 20 years to
get rid of Rawlings|, we don't want to go that far but we have the energy
and drive to continue as long as our people are held hostage.
The Struggle Continues!!!
