I have always been allowed to sit in wheelchairs before selecting, I think
that should be a common practice anywhere you might be dealing, frankly
because wheelchairs are costly items, and most funding sources only purchase
every 3-5 years, so you definitely have to pick the right match.

Did you know Kat that a lot of wheelchair vendors will let you sit in their
chairs? At least in Peds, when I get in a case earlier enough, I can get
vendors to bring samples of their products to the home and show how they
work and let families try them out. Especially if you are not a
complicated sitting client, they can get you samples that meet your need
such as self-propelled, lower to ground (higher to ground), specific wheel
types. I would contact the company that manufactures the chair personnally.
Both Invacare and Quickie make excellent chairs that often come down to
personnal preference especially when it comes to things like cushions,
backs, wheel placement, colors, ease of portability, etc.
