I probably had 1/3 of each type of veggie. I am not
sure if 4 1/2 is too young to give a baby a taste of
food. There was very little on the spoon - just a
little dab on a baby spoon. We gave her 3 or 4 tastes.
We were only planning on giving her a single taste
but she liked it so much that we gave her a few more.
Both of my boys (now 5 and 3) when they were 4 months
old would look at my wife and I eating and make
chewing motions. We are not planning on letting food
take the place of breast milk.

As far as mashing the veggies I started off with a
hand masher and then went for the blender. Usually I
will simmer for about 20 minutes and that is it.
Occassionally I go for the "mashed potato" texture. I
usually do that with rutabaga or with cauliflower.

I wouldn't go as far as blending them. I tend to put
mine in a pan
with a bit of water, steam/boil them for about 15 mins
or until a
knife goes through the pieces. Then I just use a hand
potato masher
to mash a good chunk of fat into the mixture.

I'm surprised your daughter enjoyed them so much... 4
1/2 months
seems quite young to be eating vegetables!
