I recently saw a TV nature special on termites. Seems that there are 900
lbs. of them for every human. One man with a vacume truck could harvest a
lot of protein and fat from large areas of the earth. Australia could
probally rival the American Soy Industry in protein and oil production.
Only 31% of the worlds ariable land is cultivated for plants. This more
fertile land is capable of producing far more meat that the 67% that is
currently pasture land ( not fertile enough to produce far more profitable
vegetable crops). Of course the total ariable land is only about 35% of the
earths total land surface - the rest is only suitable for termites and the
sun-belt suburban houses they love to eat ( the Terminix man was here
yesterday).
I have often how many cattle the grass clippings from American lawns could
feed. Harvesting it is a major industry here. Seems that it takes up the
majority of our Dallas landfill.
