Hi everybody and Andrea, I've never written before so it's nice to finally meet everyone.
I think that the bible has to be read in context. I have Celiac disease which I'm sure most of you know about. Jews aren't that susceptable for carrying the gene that caused it. hence, it was OK for them to eat during Jesus' time here on earth. It was common nourishment for that age and I guess in that area? Not sure about that. But Jesus would be referring to himself as nourishment for the soul, not our bodies.
When the jews were told by God not to eat pork there was the real possibility that they could contract trichinosis according to their knowlege at the time. Now we know that we just have to cook it through.
    Hope this helps some,
Monica
