I have had a similar problem with my USB mouse - intermittent failure to work, even though it is lit up. I resolved it by
unplugging and then plugging. That has always worked for me and it might work for you, too. Of course, you would like a permanent
solution, not just a work-around!
I doubt that your problem is a dead battery if the date and time remain correct. That motherboard is only a few years old, I
believe, and batteries are usually good for three years or more. I would check with Logitech to see if they have a suggestion.
(Once I had problems with a Razor Diamondback mouse that would not start on the first boot. Razor gave me some changes to the
registry to make, and it worked fine after that.)
I think that the shut down problem is not related. I am pretty sure that we have seen this problem before, and you should check the
archives. I have no doubt that you'll get some advice from other list members soon. :)

PS: most modern mb batteries are cheap, about $2, and available at Wal-Mart or Radio Shack, so, if you want to replace yours it
should not be a big deal. You will have to set all the BIOS again.

Subject: [PCBUILD] 2 motherboard problems?
I am having 2 recent mb problems and am writing to ask
your help to troubleshoot it.
When booting up an Asus A7N8X-X mb does not
recognize the USB Logitech keyboard (although USB
devices are enabled in the BIOS). Another issue: it
does not turn off after the o.s. closes using the Shut Down
command. I have been turning off the mb manually by
holding in the start button.
After turning on computer, after a few reboots the mb
recognizes the USB keyboard and the boot up sequence
succeeds. No apparent problem with keyboard after
o.s. loads.
Could it be a failing mb battery? The date and time is
correct. I don't think that the BIOS needs to have a
parameter set so that the computer will turn off after
Shut Down, does it?
Thanks in advance for your help.
