that may very well be it. That's what took out our phones once last summer,
when they chewed through a wire about a mile away. The houses are also from
a time when the grounding wasn't that great in the electrical system so that
might play a roll too, my old house was that way and I had some trouble but
I was on CB then and not exactly running a good antenna or coax but I'm sure
the electrical system played a roll too.

Hi John,

Well, the houses are from about 50 to 60 years old. One thing I do know is
that we have a huge problems with squirrels in the area. People insist on
feeding the birds, but the squirrels scale the bird feeders and eat a lot of
the food and breed like rabbits. Consequently, we have indeed had a lot of
trouble with electric lines and cable lines. One time when we were having
difficulty with cable TV channels, a technician who came by our house to
check out the line said:

"those little b*stards, they chew through everything around here."

So I have wondered if this squirrel issue may be at the crux of the matter.
Unfortunately, there is little anyone can do other than complain to the town
and hope eventually, something is done.

how old are the houses in that area? just wondering if maybe the electrical
system might not be grounded or not well.

Hi Danny,

Well, the people who are complaining are all using cable TV. They say I am
wiping out channels 62, 68-71 mostly. In addition they say I am coming
through such things as cordless phones (49 mHz) and such things as clock
radios and guitar amps.

Yeah, a lot of those old scanners would definitely do a number on tv
channels if you weren't real close to them. In terms of your current rig
coming in on them, is channel seven the "mostly watched channel there
abouts? I ask as it's frequency, of course, is fairly close to 2meters,
and I suppose if their tvs aren't on either cable or satelite, the
"fundamental overload of your transmitting at fairly high power, fairly
close to their received frequency, into an antenna being very close to
their sets with either outdoor or rabbit ear antennas maybe using unshielded
twinlead, might explain it, but that's a strange.
