Hi.
Sounds like a forlorn hope to me. I had blown the driver and finals in a
'706 MkII and they cost $55 apiece to replace. Throw another $100 on for
the labor, and it cost me $265 to put the radio back on the air. By the
way, Icom's SWR protection isn't bomb proof--a bad load was all it took and
when the finals blew, they shorted.
