I like the rambling on this student annual dues issue. However, as far
as my knowledge goes, legal innuendoes create room for manipulation.
The handwriting is on the wall as far as the dues matter goes.
Keep rambling!

<P>I am totally with you on this issue Richard. I have problems with
using age to determine dues. Benefits are not a function of age neither
is ability to pay. This scheme is error prone and divisive
and it goes to the very core of our existence- who is a member? Of
course payment of dues determines membership. So is o</P>
<OL>
<LI>I don't know how they want verify age. Perhaps with a
statement, "Please, enclose proof of age with your membership check" or
a statement on AAM function announcements, "Please be ready to present
proof of age at the door". Of course this will cross-check against the
dues schedule and payment.</LI>
<LI>Why should an 18 year-old and a 25 year-old pay the same amount? 21
to 25 year olds can legally drink alcohol while 18 year-olds cannot.
So, tell me what the 18 year-old is getting as benefit comparable
to the other older age groups. Why should a forty year-old
pay more than a 25 year-old except that he is older? Does he get more
in benefits? Does higher dues entitle him to more or louder say in the
association?</LI>
<LI>Who is a member? In the old schedule, I know of several families
where the wife or husband paid the dues for the family. It
was therefore an inducement for family participation. Now that we
have individual dues, do we also have individual participation? I
mean if Morgan or Eric pay their dues does that entitle their
wives or girl friends to free entrance to our functions? Even if
they are Africans and haven't paid their dues?</LI></OL>

<P>I hope the board of directors re-visits this issue as soon as
possible. There was nothing wrong with the old system. A footnote
advising that married students were subject to family dues or
something in-between could have resolved the students' rate issue.
That system acknowledged the family as a unit. I have heard the
argument that the old system did not specifically mention families.
Well, it was implied and the Association was deliberately mute on the
definition of a family because of the different permutations and
combinations a "couple".</P>

<DIV>Good afternoon, Peter.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Please help, if you can. On Tuesday, 1/10/06, I </DIV>
<DIV>posted the immediate below feedback in response </DIV>
<DIV>to Joe Brewoo's answer to my initial inquiry on the </DIV>
<DIV>Revised Membership Dues. It has not appeared </DIV>
<DIV>on any of the two AAM Listservs. However, I am </DIV>
<DIV>receiving postings from other senders to the </DIV>

<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Hence, if there is anything you can do to help</DIV>
<DIV>remedy this, I will highly appreciate it.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Cheers. Thanks in advance for your attention and</DIV>

<DIV>Thank you Mr Yarl for your interest. </DIV>
<DIV>You did not explain the point of confusion with respect to the
categories of membership dues.</DIV>
<DIV>I thought having a lesser number of categories will be simplier
than having more categories.</DIV>
<DIV>We used to have three categories of paid full membership;
Family, Individuals and Students.</DIV>
<DIV>It has been revised to make it simplier by having two categories,
Youth and Adult to curtail all associated confusion with the previous
