ASUS A 8v Deluxe
XP pro
O built this machine about a year ago for a friend, and it's always
worked well.
About 10 days ago it failed to boot from the onboard Promise controller.
The drive is properly detected.
I switched it to the IDE controller, and all was well.
She really likes her Zip drive, which I disconnected to have a spare IDE
slot, so I swapped out the ribbon cable and re-attached it to the
Promise controller, and it booted fine.
One day later it's failing to boot again (HD is still detected properly
in the boot sequence).
What's causing this? I don't know much about Promise controllers.
