Any time you're losing weight (aside from water weight), you're losing  
both muscle and fat.  It's just a question of how much of each.  A good  
ratio is 3:1, an outstanding ratio is 10:1 (fat lost to muscle lost).   
Which would make for another interesting subject -- how the paleo diet  
affects fat/muscle ratios when gaining or losing bodyweight.
