Jonathan and Mag,

Jon, You might want to check out one of those Sony Aibo dogs; a friend
just got one, and it's pretty cool. They're expensive, but you can find
them on Ebay now.

Mag, could your friend's conversations with the cars on the road be
repeated in polite company? Almost all my vehicles have had names, some
fairly uncomplimentary, except for the van I had before the one I've got
now, which was _completely_ uncomplimentary. It was "The Beast." It was
a '90 3/4 ton Ford van with a marginally working lift. The van I've got
now hasn't come up with a name for itself yet. They seem to generate
names based on paint color and quirks.

'67 purple Jeep CJ-5, with a manual tranny: The Purple People Eater
(hard to get into or out of. Bought in 1976)

'73 green Jeep Pickup: The Green Dragon or Monster (so loud and so much
exhaust that I swore it breathed fire Bought in '77, as I couldn't
drive a stick anymore).

'82 maroon Chevy Citation: The Scarlet Harlot (developed a bad habit of
dying in intersections and at freeway off-ramps. Bought in '86, when
The Dragon belched its last).

'92 grey Pontiac Grand AM: The Grey Ghost (developed same quirk as the
Citation, but I'd moved to Laramie by then, and the mechanic down here
knew what the problem was, and fixed it quickly. Bought in '94.
Died a premature death in 1996 in an accident).

'91 black Subaru Loyale Wagon: The Dad Mobile (Named by a friend at the
time Janet and I got engaged, because it looked like a family car -
It was the easiest vehicle I ever had to get my manual wheelchair in
and out of. We traded it when I had to go to a power chair for
"The Beast." We still miss the "Dad Mobile," and wish we'd kept it
too, as it was a good vehicle for Janet to drive. Bought in 1996

'90 3/4 ton Ford van with a marginally working lift: The Beast. Bought
in 2001, when I had to go to a power chair)

'99 red (burgundy) Dodge Caravan: Yet to be named, but considering "The
Red Raider". Bought in April of 2004, after I got trapped inside
"The Beast" one time too many.

Kendall

An unreasonable man (but my wife says that's redundant!)

The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one
persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore, all
progress depends on the unreasonable man.

Aww Jonathan, one of my helpers talks to the cars on the road! not so
much
the folks driving them, but to the cars themselves! So you're not alone.
