Greetings--

On one of my pre-house fire home computers, I ran XP Pro on a Pentium III 1 GHz processor, but I did have 512 MB of SDRAM installed. The computer gave my daughter acceptable performance on web, email, and Office apps, but I believe that having 512 or more MB of RAM was more important in this context. Between Windows 2000 and XP there does not appear to me to be a huge performance difference, and, you can elect to turn off certain "special effects" using the advanced tab of the My Computer properties page. Depending on your intended use, you shouldn't take too much of a performance hit moving from your current Win 2K OS to Windows XP. If you can afford to increase your RAM, that would be the most significant performance booster.
