I have a Maxtor One Touch II external hd that was working fine through a 
firewire to my Dell Dimension 1100, 1.53 ghz, xphome, 512k, 80gig hd. 
All of a sudden it quit working and could not be recognized by firewire 
or usb, so they sent me a replacement.  Replacement (One Touch III) 
cannot be recognized via firewire, but could be seen through a usb 
cable.  I bought another firewire card and replaced the cable, but it 
still cannot be recognized through firewire card.  Maxtor says it's most 
likely a driver problem and there's nothing they can do.  I am at a loss 
as to troubleshoot the firewire card and this external hd.

Any ideas?
