Dianne,
Advast can only be uninstalled by going to their website and running the uninstall app. found there.
As to the other problems, I would reinstall your scanner, as these appear to be related to it. As an aside
I have found Avast to be the better choice for virus protection (just my opinion).

Subject: [PCBUILD] Mess that Virus created?
Dear all the wonderful people who wrote to respond to this problem.
Thank you so, so much, especially Sven for all the help. I followed your advice, And ran Trend-Micro House call, it found all the viruses. Then I re-installed AVG and set it in motion, and used Ad-Aware and Spy-Bot. All clean, then rebooted, and cleaned again, all clear!
Only a couple of side effects, in the overall long run, I had to uninstall and re-install SP2 for XP. The mess created by the virus had messed up that specifically. No problems (and I say this with amazement!).
There are one or two holdovers.... Firstly, I installed AVAST at some point before the whole clean up job, and now I CANT GET RID OF IT. It wont let me uninstall from Add/Remove Programs, or get rid of it off my taskbar.
As well, The program Adobe Photoshop Album Starter Edition 3.0 gives me a "There was a problem opening the catalog named "My Catalog". Then, "[Microsoft] ODBC Driver Manager Data source name not found and no default driver specified". An thoughts?
Thanks again,
Dianne
