I'm praying. A nonchristian counselor can be helpful, but one idea that
he/she might present is that we should work on our self esteme, think of our
accomplishments and strengths, and believe that we are good people. He/she
might believe that mankind is inherently good, and would not want to talk
about sin in a person's life that needs to be dealt with. I think that we
can be good by human standards, and our accomplishments and strength can
help us feel better about ourselves on an emotional level, but i also think
we should keep in mind what the Bible says, and realize that our true worth
is in Christ, and that it is not based on our strengths and accomplishments.
I wonder if the world's philosophy is, I'm a good person, I am lovable, so I
love myself and you can love me too. I'm okay, you're okay. (I know,
that's the title of a book.) It came to me that this is a shallow kind of
"love". It means more to me that, though I am not good or lovable to God,
and may not be to others, God loves me anyway!
