I agree with this! Dreams can be great motivators for the present, too. When Daniel indicates that he wants to be an EMT, police officer, or fire fighter, I always say, "Well, work on your reading. That job requires you to be able to read well." Currently he's 9 and just barely struggling through "Green Eggs and Ham" so he needs a little more internal incentive from time to time.
