Most of the applications installed on my images are freeware.
If customer has important data, I can save it first before wiping the HD.
I am sure you all are aware that data can be saved but programs generally cannot. Software must be re-installed.
Furthermore, when everything is wiped off the HD, the challenge is to find drivers from the Internet for motherboard devices and peripherals like printers, web cams, etc.
Most customers misplace or loose the original driver CD for their peripherals. And 9 out of 10 customers never got a MB driver CD at time of computer purchase.
I never use the original recovery CD of the customer neither.
Most PCs purchaed brand new from major manufacturers come with spyware already installed!
I don't know why it is standard practice for computer dealers to sabotage the customers enjoyment of the PC by installing garbage security programs like Norton and Mcaffe that are destined to expire shortly after the customer has spent hundreds of dollars on a new PC.
This practice is SO unnecessary when freeware security software abound.
fyi my Windows are all genuine!
Another standard practice that spoils the Windows OS is the default automatic updates. Almost any update performed online is in itself a security hazzard. Updates are more safely applied by running the executable file from a local HD. Furthermore, it is my opinion that these so called security updates from Microsoft generally cause more harm than good.
Therfore, I always turn automatic updates off!
Another unorthodox thing I do is turn off system restore. System restore is used by viruses to perpetuate themselves after a virus scan was completed while system restore was active.
System restore comsumes about 3 GB+ of HD space!
Restoring an image of the Windows partition is superior to restoring any system restore point because it is a destuctive restore, meaning it wipes c:\ partition clean first before restoring a healthy image of Windows.
