RU sure it's HD space and not RAM or virual memory?
You should set your virtual memory to be at least 2 times the amount of RAM on your MB.
I would set min and max values to 512MB. This would leave almost 2.5 GB free on your HD.
Download and install sequoia to locate large useless files. Keep everything in the Windows folder except Dr. Watson.
Delete temp files, cookies, chk files.
Download, install and run then register avast antivirus. Download, install and run spybot 1.4
Download, install and run hijackthis (be careful)
Boot into command prompt only and run scandisk.
If errors are found delete them and skip undo.
Look at the surface of HD. Does it resemble swiss cheese? Stop surface scan.
If HD looks fragmented then boot into safe mode and run disk defragmenter.
Hopefully, your problem will finally be solved.
