BlankThank you SOOOOOOOO much again for all of your replies! Overwhelmingly I am not alone! I am getting nervous w/ my upcoming appt. w/ the gastro doc (24th) and beginning to doubt myself (duh - I feel so much better & did right away when I went GF!!). Thanks for your help!

I was overweight when diagnosed and have gained since.

I am struggling to find a diet that I can adapt to gluten free.

I was underweight, however, I did read years ago that Dr. Murray (now at Mayo Clinic) had said many celiacs in the US are not underweight because our diet otherwise is so calorie dense. He had diagnosed a women with celiac quite by surprise who was obese. That was an unusual event for him at the time....probably in the archives somewhere. I believe he was at U. Iowa at the time. So, it is quite possible and does occur.

It is true, most people think that celiacs and those who are
gluten-intolerant are typically underweight. I *was* terribly thin as a
child, but was about average weight most of my adulthood. When I was
19-21, somewhere in there, I was diagnosed with IBS at my university
health center, and was told there was nothing I could do about it except
to relieve any stress that I was experiencing. I didn't gain all this
weight until I quit smoking, had two surgeries, moved, and took and
extremely stressful job in a software startup company, all in the summer
of 1992, just after I turned 35.

I am now 100 pounds overweight, and was diagnosed (empirically) about 5
years ago.
