Thanks to all who responded to my initial inquiry. The general consensus is
that any hand-held digital recorder would probably have digital voice
recognition or speech recognition software.  But it needs setup to recognize
one person's voice. Outside noises or other persons' voices would interfere
with the final product and would either not work or require a lot of
editing.  The 7 people who responded thought that it would not work to
"tape" a celiac presentation in a large room.  Oh, well; it was just a
thought.  I'll just tape with my mini recorder and transcribe as usual.  I
guess the technology is not ready enough. Thanks.
