I was diagnosed with celiac sprue in August, 2005, and I have been on a
gluten free diet since then. My gastroenterologist found the problem with a
biopsy of my small intestine. She told me that the problem was inherited,
though I do not know of any family members who suffered from the
problem--although they could have been misdiagnosed or not diagnosed at all.
She wants to do a followup in Dec. to see if there has been regeneration of
the villi in my small intestine.
Have any of you had the followup tests with postivie results? Are there
cases in which the villi do not regenerate? If so, what it the outcome for
those patients? Is it possible for patients to introduce at least some
gluten products into the diet later on.... or not?
Thanks,
