I've replaced my own batteries in the one I had for high school and the one
I actually own I sent in to have the battery replaced and I never had a
problem at all. That shouldn't happen, I'd say they messed up. Did you hit
the little reset button in the side near the ports? you might have to do
that. I think that button's inside older units but not completely sure. I
use my BNS a lot as well and would like to upgrade to the pack mate but I'm
working out a deal on that right now because I can't afford it and since I'm
not in school, the commission for the blind won't get it for me so I'll
probably have to get a low interest loan for it which is why I put it off,
that and I would trade in my BNS 2000 likely. I sure do get a lot of use
from it though still, even will at my ham radio club meeting next week, I'm
president so I keep notes on it for that and millions of other things.

Subject: Replace Braille 'n' Speak batteries
BlankI hate to tell this story, but, maybe, it will save someone the same
horrible experience.
I call my BnS "my prosthetic brain", and that is not a joke. I have been
depending on that machine for more than twelve years.
The batteries have been deteriorating for several months. I finally decided
to accept the suggestions of a couple of the members of this list, and I
took it to Batteries Plus to have the batteries replaced.
Before I found an opportunity to go, it occurred to me that I should tell
the technician to connect a power supply to the machine before disconnecting
the batteries. However, when I got to the shop, I was in a hurry, and
forgot to say that.
Yep! When I picked the Braille 'n'' Speak up, it was wiped completely
clean. It can't even talk anymore.
So, ;if you take your BnS to Batteries Plus, or some similar shop,
Please! Please! Remember to tell them to connect a power supply, before
beginning to remove the old batteries.
And, good luck.
73,
Gale

P.S. Anyboddy have a Braille 'n' Speak they don't need anymore?
