There have been lots of messages here about Unix and Linux.  Yet, no one has 
mentioned the Speakup Project which is a modified linux kernel that supports 
both hardware and software speech synthesis natively in the operating 
system.  there is a huge community of folks running talking Linux boxes.

A friend of mine is a blind programmer hotshot.  He will have to use
unix, g-d what a name!  Is anybody using unix?  How do you access it
with speech?
