Hi Tom, I also am blind and use the t 90a with the cig lighter adapter
hooked to a set of batterries used for all my gear including hf etc and it
works great.  Yes, I think it would either weaken the battery or at least
the charging circuit to use voltages higher than 11 volts as recommended.
