All this time, I've thought that all Smucker's products fully
disclosed gluten ingredients. Apparently, I was incorrect, and am
passing along this statement from the company regarding the fact that
they have not, until just recently, been requiring their suppliers to
provide information about gluten beyond wheat alone. (YIKES! I've
been eating Smucker's jams and jellies forever, thinking they were
most certainly safe. Perhaps they are, but the point is, we cannot
be sure at this time.)
I might add that, if one googles "gluten-free" and "Smucker's" that
there are statements all over the internet that Smucker's jams and
jellies ARE, in fact, GF. An example from the always very
trustworthy Clan Thompson site: "Smucker's Jam (all flavors):
Manufactured by Smuckers. Gluten free: Yes. Vegetarian: Yes.
Verified: 11/10/05. "
I am in complete shock at the statement I received back on my
inquiry, which happened to be regarding the R.W. Knudsen juice line.
But it sounds to me like this statement is in regard to all Smucker's
products. If anyone has reliable and RECENT information to the
contrary, I will post back to the list in a summary.

Dear Ms. Rampton,
Thank you for taking the time to contact The J.M. Smucker Company
with your inquiry regarding the gluten content of our R.W. Knudsen
Juice Blend. We greatly appreciate and value the input we receive
from all of our consumers.
We recognize individuals with food allergies face particular
challenges when making everyday food choices. The Smucker Company has
long been committed to providing consumers with as much information
as possible about the ingredients in our products and follows all
relevant Food and Drug Administration (FDA) labeling requirements.
This includes clearly disclosing the presence of any of the Big Eight
Allergenic Foods, milk, eggs, fish, crustacean shellfish, tree nuts,
peanuts, wheat, and soybeans, in our products.
We also understand people following gluten-free diets require
information beyond that currently required by the FDA, such as
whether a product contains oats, barley or rye, in order to make
accurate food choices. Until recently, we did not require our
ingredient suppliers to inform us of gluten sources in their
ingredients other than wheat. As a result, at this time we cannot
indicate with absolute certainty which of our products may be
gluten-free.
However, we are currently conducting a comprehensive review with all
our suppliers in order to determine which of our products may contain
gluten from any source. While this is an ongoing review, we expect to
be able to post the results for some products on our website at
www.smucker.com as they become available to us over the next several
months.
Again, thank you for your interest in our products and taking the
time to share your concerns with us. If you have additional questions
or comments please let us know.
Sincerely,
Jared Hughes
Consumer Relations Representative
