Hello All:

The SnoCoCeliac Support group will reconvene on Tuesday, November 8 at 7pm in
a NEW, QUIETER LOCATION. After almost a month of negations with Group Health,
I'm pleased to announce that we have a meeting room at the Northshore
(Bothell) Group Health Clinic. I will meet with the Clinic Adminstrator on Thursday
to see the actual room and request additional furniture. So I will send you
another email after that meeting to tell you exactly where we will meet in that
Northshore GHC Clinic. Meanwhile I can give you directions to the clinic:

Northshore Medical Center
11913 N.E. 195th St.
Bothell, WA 98011
425-489-3100

FROM NORTH OF BOTHELL OR EASTSIDE:
From 1-405, take the Beardslee Blvd. exit.
Turn east onto N.E. 195th St.
Continue to the second stoplight.
The medical center is on the right.

FROM SEATTLE OR WESTSIDE:
Take I-5 North to 145th Street Exit.
Head east on 145th Street until you reach the Lake City Way/Bothell Way
junction.
Turn left (north) onto Bothell Way.
Go 5.6 mi into the junction of Bothell-Everett Highway, Main Street and
Bothell Way.
Go onto Main Street and go 0.3 mi.
Main Street becomes Beardslee Blvd.
Go 0.6 mi on Beardslee until it becomes 112th Ave. NE.
Go 0.2 mi on 112th NE until you reach 195th St.
Turn right on NE 195th and go 0.6 mi to the clinic at 11913 NE 195th St. on
the right.

As mentioned, I'll give you specific directions to our meeting room after my
meeting with the clinic administrator on Thursday. Since we will meet at 7pm,
after clinic hours, a security guard will let us in the clinic. Nevertheless,
a closed clinic will be QUIET.

MEETING DISCUSSION TOPIC:
This month we will discuss "Living and Eating with Non-Celiacs: How to
Coexist without Contamination". Let us consider questions such as: How do you
prevent cross-contamination in your kitchen where non-celiac family members or
housemates also prepare gluten-containing foods? Do you attend non-celiac parties
or dinners with friends? How do you ascertain whether there will be safe foods
for you there? How do you explain your food restrictions to non-celiacs about
your eating restrictions? How do you explain celiac disease to non-celiacs?
How do you tell your family members or friends that you're having food
intolerance reactions and don't feel well enough to attend social functions? How long
after your CD diagnosis did you eat out with non-celiacs? Did you stick to
celiac friendly restaurants or did you request 'safe' food in non-celiac
restaurant? What would you tell a newly diagnosed celiac about eating/living with
non-celiacs?

FREEBEES/GOODIES:
Sandy Lasley will bring ALPSNACK (www.alpsnack.com) gluten and dairy free
snack bar samples for your enjoyment at our next meeting. THANKS IN ADVANCE,
Sandy!

Let us also consider having a holiday cookie exchange with recipes (or
ingredient lists) at the December SnoCoCeliac meeting? Remember several of us have
casein and soy or other food intolerances. So we would like that ingredient
list prominently displayed beside each batch of 1-2 dozen cookies. Ingredients
like 'margarine', 'shortening' or 'milk' should specifically say whether the
margarine or shortening is dairy or soy free and whether nondairy milks can be
substituted in the recipe. We assume you all will bring GLUTEN FREE recipes. LOL

I'll send another email later this week before our meeting on Tuesday,
November 8 with more details about our meeting location. I am looking forward to a
QUIET room in a more centrally located clinic for all our members. I'm also
happy to have another celiac support group meet at a Group Health Facility.
Hoping to see you next week
