Some new information has appeared since 1987.    The book "The Long Summer" by
Brian Fagen, presents the theory (backed by some archaeological evidence) that
it was climate changes of 10,000 or so years ago that caused the shift to
agriculture - starting with the harvesting of nuts in the Middle East.
