Hi Lynn,

As others have said in response to your post, I would starve on what
you've been eating, And I eat FAR less now than I ever used to.

The recommendations seem right on with regard to the protein and fat
content. As far as the 58% fat figure that website is coming up with,
I suppose it's possible, but it doesn't seem likely based on what you
say you ate.

Still, the paleo way can be VERY daunting at first, especially if you
are doing it whole 'hog', as you are doing. When I first started
eating Paleo, I would get so hungry that it was not uncommon for me to
sit down and eat an entire chicken at one sitting. Now half seems too
much.

What I would tell you is that you probably need a lot more fat in your
diet. My favorite sources of fat are avocados (I eat at least one a
day), eggs and mayonnaise. I also have started adding chicken fat to
soups and using it to cook instead of butter.

Frankly, I would stay away from the butter entirely, at least until
you are "weaned" off it.

Also, I may be mistaken, but I thought pistachios weren't paleo. If
you want some good healthy nuts, eat almonds, or better yet,
macadamias.

And STOP counting calories. You'll drive yourself crazy. You think our
ancestors a million years ago counted their calories?!

You need to eat foods that will give you a sense of satiety. Only
foods that are high in fat did that for me at first. It was a bigger
mental adjustment than it was physical, but you've got to get your
body out of the habit of burning carbs for energy and into the mode of
burning fat for energy.

Carbs are unnecessary. You are still eating a lot of them, especially
in the form of sugar.

My breakfasts, when I eat them now, consist of the same kinds of foods
that I eat for lunch or dinner. In fact, what I eat for any meal is
now indistinguishable from that of any other meal. The whole idea of
having something sweet in the morning is a fiction that was foisted
upon humanity by the cereal companies. Until processed breakfast
foods, people pretty much just ate leftovers for breakfast. Why?
Because they were still good and probably wouldn't keep much longer if
they didn't get rid of them.

Eating paleo is a bigger mental adjustment than physical. I seem to
remember that you want to lose some weight, but keep in mind that you
will do yourself and the paleo way a disservice if you just look at it
that way, because then it takes on the character of any other diet:
you'll try it for awhile, and once you get or don't get the results
you're looking for, you'll be back to your old ways or onto the next
thing.

Start thinking about this for the long haul. Stop counting calories.
Eat the right foods...as much as you want. Whenever you're hungry.
Stop starving yourself. Eat more fat and protein. As long as it's
coming from the right sources, your hunger pangs will cease AND you
will lose weight AND, over time, your appetite will dramatically
decrease. Even when you do get hungry, you WILL not feel the ravenous
pangs that you now feel.

At least this is my experience, FWIW. Hope it helps.

Mike W.
