I am not carbohydrate fanboy, but on the other hand, they are not the
inherently evil harbinger of death that some websites make them out to
be. For example, the linked site says, among other things:
"Supermarkets offer fruit from seven continents 365 days of the year as
the rate of diabetes, cancer, Alzheimer's, heart and bowel diseases soar.
Get a clue"
Please. Fruit isn't causing those problems. A poor diet and a slothful
population are causing those problems. Having that slothful population
eat *more* fruit (and I mean *fruit*, not pies and cakes made out of it),
it would probably do them a world of good.
"... a diet consisting of 100% carbohydrates will result in a quick and
certain death within weeks."
Misleading scare tactics like this don't do anyone any good. Unless
you're swilling down nothing but sugar-water, it is a practical
impossibility to have a diet of 100% carbs. Even if all you eat is bread,
pasta, rice, pancakes, and chocolate bars, you are not going to be eating
100% carbohydrates. You could make the same statement about any nutrient
(protein, fat, or water) -- that eating nothing but that would kill you
over time. The body's needs are simultaneously complex and simple.
Complex in that a wide range of nutrients are required, and simple in that
a diet of good wholesome unprocessed real food can supply all of them.
