<<Disclaimer: Verify this information before applying it to your situation.>>
Sorry this took so long. I've been trying to post it to the old listserv at
St Johns.
Thanks to all the ladies that responded to my query about a relationship
between yeast infections and accidental gluten ingestion.
Allot of folks thought my yeast infection might have ben triggered by
antibiotics. Since it's been well over two years since I've taken any
antibiotics I would say antibiotics have nothing to do with it.
Some folks thought my diet might be too high in carbohydrates and sugars.
I'll admit that may be a contributing factor. I bake GF for a living and I
do consume quite a bit of what I make. I do feel the need to verify the
quality of what I'm selling.
A number of respondents said that they used to get more frequent yeast
infections before going GF. They were unsure, but felt that there might be
a connection. This has been my experience. Before going GF I had frequent
yeast infections that I kept under control with vinegar and water. This is
the first yeast infection that I've had since going GF two years ago.
A few respondents were sure that there was no connection between gluten
ingestion and yeast infections . These folks did not support their belief.
They just seemed unwilling to consider it a possibility.
One lady actually shared some research with me.
http://www.o2-health.com/articles/7.htm That's the link to the actual
article that she referred me to. It states that there is a definite link
between candida and gluten, though not necessarily a link between ingesting
gluten and developing a vaginal yeast infection.
One or two of those who responded answered with a declarative yes. For them
there was a positive connection between eating gluten being followed by the
development of a yeast infection.
I am unsure, but because I developed my most recent yeast infection after
about two weeks of relaxed vigilance over my diet, I believe that there may
be a connection.
Thanks again to all those who responded to my request for information.
