Today our meeting was a little different and that's why I thought you might
like to hear about it.

We moved our start up time to 10:30 because people like to drink coffee, eat
doughnuts when somebody who shall remain nameless brings them, and just
general fellowship for awhile. So, often we don't get start until 11
o'clock or after.

Today we sang a little longer than usual. Maybe, I would say, about an hour
but there was a reason. We were enjoying it, quite honestly, but Sandy felt
led, after she sang one of her favorite songs, to get one of John Ireland's,
Vicki's husband, on the phone. He lives in Tennessee and is in his
eighties. He was John's math teacher many years ago when John was in high
school. They are both stamp collectors. Tommy is a wonderful man and I
have spoken with him and you couldn't ask for a kinder person. Tommy isn't
well nor is his wife. They have a daily care giver who comes over to assist
them each day due to their poor health and age. Tommy has been quite ill of
late, too, and has been in and out of the hospital.

When John got him on our telephone, we have unlimited long distance, he
explained to Tommy the Vicki and Sandy had a song for him to hear. Tommy
has never met Sandy so it took a little explaining before he understood who
she was. John is used to working with the elderly, well, and Vicki, too, no
she isn't the elderly John works with, but John and Vicki had a friend who
passed away a few years ago by the name of Elvis who lived here in Denver.
They looked after Elvis, another very Godly man if I ever saw one, until he
passed away. He didn't live with them but they continually called him and
took him places and just kept track of him since he lived alone.

Anyhow, as I was saying, we called Tommy today. John put the cordless phone
on speaker and Vicki played as Sandy sang. Then Tommy talked to Sandy and
Vicki and thanked them and then he talked to John briefly before we
continued. Vicki and Sandy both, without saying anything, felt they should
call and sing to Tommy.

Ralph, my son's Karate instructor I told you about and who recently became
born again, came to church today, too. He has been in a lot of phantom pain
since both his legs were removed not many weeks ago. He didn't get to sleep
until 5 o'clock this morning and he hates taking pain medication of any
kind. He was quite miserable today as a result. He was still here, though,
and he stayed and ate lunch with us before Everett took him home.

The focus Friday evening is on prayer and our focus on Sunday morning is
worship. I do teach a little each week but then we have an open discussion
so others can share about the topic. We still have three, and sometimes
four, teenagers coming, too, whose parents don't attend church.

Phil.
