ECC is short for Error Checking and Correction. It's a way to catch
single-bit memory errors and correct them before they generate larger system
errors. The RAM is slightly slower as a result, but more stable under heavy
load conditions like you would find on a server. It cannot be mixed with
non-ECC RAM, nor can it be used on a mainboard that cannot support it. Hope
that little bit of info is helpful.

Subject: [PCBUILD] re PC133 Ram
Hi all,
I have been searching for some PC133 RAM to upgrade my computers.
I have found there seem to be 2 varieties. ECC and NON ECC.
In my computer I have NON ECC. Can I install ECC ram??
From what I can work out, it seems ECC only works in servers, but I
don't understand the difference.
Any insight will be MOST welcome.
Thank you
Anne
