That is the bracket for your heat sink. Even though you pressed the
rivets back in to place, I would venture to guess that your heat sink is
not maintaining proper contact with your CPU which would cause the CPU
to overheat very quickly. You can buy replacement heat sink brackets at
electronics stores and probably on the web. Replacing it is not an
"easy" job, but it's not terribly difficult either. I wouldn't attempt
it as a "novice", but if you've replaced a motherboard in the past, you
should be able to do this repair without any real problems. The one
sticking point on the last one I did is that the bottom of the bracket
was actually coming in to contact with the solder points under the
motherboard. I had to improvise some plactic spacers.
