61% Believe Republican Leaders Have Been Protecting Foley

http://www.rasmussenreports.com/2006/October%20Dailies/MarkFoley.htm

Heard Hastert quoted on NPR this morning as wishing he'd acted earlier
on Foley situation. Kind of makes me wonder when he knew what was going
on.

Our esteemed member of Congress was reported in the primary state paper
this morning as being sure that Hastert didn't know about Foley's
actions

In a phone interview, Barbara Cubin (R-WY) said Thursday she has known
House Speaker Dennis Hastert, R-Ill., well for 12 years.

"I know absolutely that if Denny Hastert had any idea that anything
other than what is best for the pages or interns or any children, if he
knew that there was anything that might put them in jeopardy, he would
go all out to stop it," she said.

Another Republican Congressman from Illinois is quoted in this NPR
report as knowing about the nature of Foley's emails last year. In
light of that information, it seems unlikely that Hastert truly didn't
know until last Friday. And, if Hastert didn't know until Foley
resigned, why is he apologizing for not acting sooner?

Kendall

An unreasonable man (but my wife says that's redundant!)

The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one
persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore, all
progress depends on the unreasonable man.

-George Bernard Shaw 1856-1950
