Director, PEOPLE Program

The PEOPLE Program (Pre-College Enrichment Opportunity Program for Learning Excellence) seeks to increase enrollment and graduation by ethnic minority and low-income students in institutions of higher education, particularly at UW-Madison.

Successful candidates for the Director’s position will possess the following qualifications: a Master's Degree in counseling, student personnel, education or a related discipline is required (Ph.D. preferred); a minimum of six years of progressively responsible experience in management and supervision of pre-college academic programs, cultural activities, workshops and group activities in higher education; a minimum of five years of experience working with culturally diverse youth in educational settings; extensive experience working with public school staff and community organizations; ability to develop effective partnership and collaborative efforts between groups, agencies and academic departments; evidence of ability to motivate, supervise and organize resources and staff to meet program goals; experience writing, implementing and oversight of educational grants; demonstrated ability to successfully mediate solutions to parties in conflict; demonstrated commitment to values and programs of diversity and multiculturalism; strong interpersonal, planning and organizational skills; ability to set priorities, deadlines and ensure projects are completed in a timely manner; demonstrated commitment to innovation, continuous learning and improvement; ability to advocate for program needs and to span university program boundaries to solve problems.
