Greetings all,
I have been searching the archives, to no avail, for references I've seen
here for a free, basic operating system. Seems maybe it was linux based but
not sure.
My problem is trying to get one of a couple of old compaq computers
working enough for word processing and internet connection. The hard drive of one
has been wiped clean and the other is pretty much just a "parts" machine.
My friend that I'm doing this for has been using and saving his "stuff" on
yahoo so I need a system that's compatible. Also he uses dsl for connection
(phone line).
I'm just trying to save him a trip to the library to check and send his
e-mail. I don't know the model but it is a celeron system, 256mb ram 60 gig HD.
I can maybe get more info but since parts have been changed around, a simple
model number might not help much.
TIA,
-Phil-
