Well, I have to say that some of your responses were pretty harsh. I felt
like I was being accused of being a bad mother, trying to poison my baby! I
was asking for help - not asking to be yelled at. Honestly, some of you
really hurt my feelings. Some of you were helpful though, and I thank you.

From what I understood, there is a window of when you should introduce
gluten to a celiac-risk baby. Here is a quote from an article about the
research study:
---
"Babies who had their first taste of cereal in the first three months of
their lives had a five-fold increased risk for celiac disease autoimmunity
compared with children exposed to such foods at age four to six months
according to a study in the May 18 issue of the Journal of the American
Medical Association. An additional risk re-emerges, albeit with borderline
significance, with initial exposure to gluten-containing foods at seven
months or later, Jill M. Norris, M.P.H., Ph.D., and colleagues at the
University of Colorado at Denver and Health Sciences Center here added. The
middle window of four to six months for the introduction of
gluten-containing foods, such as wheat, barley or rye, was key to holding
down the risk of developing celiac disease, they said."
---
I felt like I was doing the right thing! I waited until 1 1/2 weeks before
he turns 6 months old to introduce gluten. I started with oatmeal (mixed
with rice) and worked up to "mixed". I am seeing some odd things happening
so I wanted to ask what some of you thought. Incidentally, my older son and
I are not officially diagnosed, and my blood tests were negative. Despite
that we have many celiac symptoms and we have been GF for almost 2 years
with great results. It's not easy to stay on a strict diet like this without
any real medical diagnosis, but we do. (My son is also casein-free.) I am
really trying to do what's best for my sons.
Anyway, I am removing gluten from my son's diet until I can research
everything more thoroughly. Thank you for your responses.
Chris
