From what I have read, if you are using add-on cards to run SATA, you are getting lower performance than
a good IDE drive with an 8MB buffer.  Check reviews in Tom's Hardware Guide from about two years ago.
(Of course, if you are getting the host controller for cheapies, then your hard drive would be useful
when you upgraded to a mb with on-board SATA support.)
