Catherine,
May I suggest backup your document file. I also have an external drive.
Every so often, I copy my documents file to the external drive. I name the
copied file as date (i.e. 03-10-2010 Copy of My Documents Then you can go to
My Documents on the C drive and delete files that you do not use very often.
I use MS Outlook 2003 and I have found that I can forward a group of emails
to myself. They get sent as attachments. Then when the email is opened, I
select all of the emails and then Save Attachments. I then have the emails
on my hard drive and can then copy them to the external drive. The emails
will open as long as Outlook is running. I don't know if this will work
with the email program that you use, but you might experiment a bit. That
is how I came across the process that I use.

Please let me know how you make out with this
Michael

Subject: [VICUG-L] Hard drive filling up!

Hi listers,
I'm approaching the limit of my 80GB capacity on my C drive. In the last
few months, I've been careful to clean off all unnecessary files, and I even
ran a harddrive clean-up program I found. Despite these efforts, there
seems to be less and less space on the drive. Am I just being bombarded by
space-hogging spyware? Does anyone have any ideas of what I could do to
clean up my drive? I do have an external drive which I use to back up
files, and while I could delete a bunch of music etc from my C drive and
keep it on the external drive only, I'd really rather not. It bugs me that
the space on my hard drive doesn't seem to be within my control. I'm
running Windows XP on a Lenovo laptop. Any ideas would be greatly
appreciated!
Catherine
