If I were in your shoes, and actually, I am, I'd avoid
Vista.  There is nothing terrible with vista, and the bugs
which were in it originally have been mostly squashed,
however, Vista never got deep market penetration which is
one reason Microsoft has been pushing so hard to get Windows
7 out.  My understanding is that Windows 7 is sleeker than
Vista, and a more logical upgrade from XP.  So, if your
computer fails before Windows 7 is ready for u, I'd install
XP, which is still widely available, and then upgrade to
Windows 7 as soon as practical.  I have been hearing far
fewer bugs from people testing Windows 7 then Vista had.

I currently am using windows xp on my computer along with
window eyes.  I really like xp as others have said on this
list, but I know that my need to upgrade is pretty imminent.
My computer is 4 or 5 years old and is slowing down.  I was
told that there is no reason to give it up until it dies.  I
keep up with my antivirus checks along with getting rid of
add ware or spy ware.  I delete temporary files regularly
and do defrag, but it seems like it is still getting slower
and slower and also freezes up occasionally more than it
used to.  
 
I was looking through some old messages on the list and saw
a discussion on windows 7 so I am gathering that a bata
version of that is out and the real thing is supposed to
come out around the holidays.  When I do have to give this
machine up I guess I could still get a machine that I could
have xp on for one thing.  That would put me two operating
systems behind at that point though.  Or I could just go to
vista and learn that new system.  I am not clear on if
window eyes is already ready to be able to be used with
windows 7 or not, but if it were soon enough for my needs I
could use windows 7.  Could someone give me your opinion on
if I were needing to get a new machine in the next six
months what would be the best route to go for?  It is
something that I worry about because I just don't know when
this is going to be at the point where I have to give it up.
