What do you mean by "Windows XP was reloaded"? In my experience, you
have three options when reinstalling Windows. You can do a repair, an
install in place or a fresh clean install.
I did a repair on my sons system, and it was never the same. We had
different problems, including performance problems. We ended up doing an
install in place and that fixed all of his problems. I'm not sure what a
repair does, but it must replace most of the Windows files on your
system without touching the configuration files, like the registry. You
don't need to reinstall your applications after a repair.
An install in place, reinstalls Windows without formating the hard
drive. All of the binaries are left on your system, but you still have
to reinstall your applications to get the short cuts, registry and other
settings in place. By a clean install, I'm talking about reformatting
your hard drive before you start the install of Windows.
Depending on what you did when you reloaded Windows, you might try doing
a clean install or an install in place.
A few things you could try first, is bringing up a command prompt and
running "chkdsk /f". It won't be able to check your system drive, so
it'll ask you if you want to schedule this the next time you reboot. If
you have sighted assistance, you might want them to keep an eye on your
system when it reboots to see what problems it finds and let you know
when it's finished. It'll take a while, and you won't have speech while
your disk is being scanned.
After running chkdsk and rebooting, I'd suggest doing a disk clean,
using something like EasyCleaner to clean up your hard drive and
registry and then defragmenting your disk.
If you need any more details, just let me know.
