I have pondered over such things when I first started out in shortwave
listening. I suppose if you took the time and effort you could perhaps
decode sideband transmissions by speeding them up or manipulating the audio
so it's clear. With that in mind, would it not be a lot easier to simply
purchase a side band radio? If you don't wish to by a transceiver, which in
my opinion might serve a constructive purpose for a later time if you choose
to operate hf, you can certainly purchase a shortwave sideband radio. That
would not only give you full coverage of the hf bands, but you could monitor
the hams using ssb. Not a whole lot of commercial stations use side band,
all though they should. I started out with just a crappy am shortwave
receiver and I upgraded to what I use now which is the dx398 from radio
shack. Of course I don't use it as much now since I've got the Icom and it's
just as easy for me to spin the dial on it, as to plugging in the 398 and
replugging the antennas in to it. So keep your ears open, if you can't
afford a brand-new shortwave radio out of the box, find something used.
Those radios are everywhere.

Hi,=20
I have a short-wave receiver. It does not support single sideband.=20
Is there anyway to hear side-band radio stations?
like, recording the sideband station conversations to a .wav file, and =
speeding the rate up.
How does single sideband work anyways?
regards: Tomi
