Richard Lockley's communication from Australia has prompted me to post a reply
for the first time. I have only recently found this list and was struck by the
similarity between his experience and mine.

Diagnosed Coeliac as an infant, I somehow seem to have been "cured" in my
early teens and was only re-diagnosed a year or so ago. A GP fairly new to me
was not satisfied with my repeated visits to his surgery with complaints most
coeliacs will be familiar with and sugested I have an endoscopic biopsy to check
for CD.

The result was positive and I have seldom felt better in my life on a GF diet
which also, by choice, is mostly vegetarian.

To the point, as a "born again" coeliac I have kept my drinking habits which
include Whisky. The coeliac society of the U.K.s' latest food list states that
all spirits are GF and I have not found my "occasional" scotch not to be a
problem, however, I have noticed a tendency not to be able to tolerate as much
alcahol as I could when younger. I had put this down to advancing years (50) but
now wonder if Richards hypothesis could hold water (or scotch).
