Last night I had dinner at Mario's Via Abruzzi in Rochester. I was very excited because it's a very fancy place with a complete, stand-alone GF menu.
I ordered a GF seafood pasta entree and when the waitress brought it to the table, it had two huge pieces of toasted bread stuck in the bowl.
I told the waitress, "I can't eat this if there's been bread in it." And she said, "We'll fix it." I told her that she couldn't just bring it back into the kitchen and take out the bread and give it back to me -- that they had to make an entirely new dinner.
It had taken them nearly an hour to bring our entrees. But after I complained, they brought me a new one within 5 minutes. Needless to say, my trust level was not high at this point. The only reason I ate it was because it was brought out by a waitress other than ours who said, "My niece has Celiac, so I totally understand."
The menu has a whole thing in the back about, "Our staff understands the Gluten-Free diet" etc. But this was my experience.
Oh, and on the way out, I went into the men's room and while I was there, a waiter came out of a stall and walked right past the sink (without using it) and back into the restaurant.
