I wonder if anyone else experiences this unpleasant problem. I was diagnosed with Celiac more than 35 years ago and have maintained a gluten free diet for all those years. Within the last year or so, I have several episodes of severe nausea, vomiting and diarrhea after ingesting a specific food. The first time it happened, I had tried eating some oatmeal. I assumed that I had a stomach virus, but when the same thing happened the second time I ate oatmeal, I knew that the oatmeal was the cause and believed that it had been contaminated with gluten. Several months later I had the same reaction after eating what was supposed to be gluten free bread made by Glutano a company that only manufactures gluten free food. I bravely tried the same bread a few days later and a after few hours I was again sick. Recently, I ate a slice of bread bought in the gluten free section of Whole Foods and a few hours later I was nauseous and vomiting. A week later, I gave it a second try and got the same results. Since both manufacturers of these breads claim to bake them in a completely gluten free environment, I am completely confused.
I recently had a blood test which showed that I have been successful in keeping myself gluten free, but I have to believe that it's gluten causing the problem because I can't figure out what other ingredient oatmeal and bread could have in common.
Any suggestions? I'm now afraid to try anything new.
