POSITION TITLE:   Micro-Computer / Assistive Technology Instructor

                                    E. H. Gentry / Regional Centers /

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

·         Must have a Bachelor's degree in Education, Rehabilitation, 
Computer Technology or a closely related field.

·         Two years experience working directly with Assistive Technology 
for the Blind / Visual Impaired or a certificate from an Assistive 
Technology Program.

·         Two (2) years of successful work experience in computer service, 
maintenance or repair field, including hardware/software installation and 
configuration preferred.

·         Course work/certification in computer technology preferred.

·         Current experience in Windows 95/98/ME/XP environment necessary 
and multiple operation systems including networking experience with computer 
equipment/Assistive Technology or visually impaired individuals preferred.

·         Must demonstrate competency in reading and writing Braille by 
scoring 80% or better on the AIDB Braille Skills assessment inventory within 
the first 30 months of employment.

·         Strong writing, speaking and human relations skills are required.

·         Must possess personal qualities necessary to maintain rapport with 
blind, deaf, and other physically handicapped individuals

·         Must be able to lift 80 pounds.

·        The successful applicant must submit to a criminal history 
background information check including, but not limited to FBI and ABI 
record repositories.  Upon offer of employment, the applicant must present a 
non-refundable fee of $49.00 and appear for scheduled finger printing 
appointment.



AIDB is sensitive to the needs of Blind or Visually Impaired and Deaf or 
Hard of Hearing and will make reasonable accommodations for qualified 
applicants and employees that do not impose undue hardship and are not 
essential functions of the job.



PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         Coordinate Assistive technology services to include assessments, 
on-site visits to evaluate Assistive technology needs, equipment 
recommendations, assistive technology equipment installation, technical 
support and training.

·         Prepare written evaluations and instruction reports.

·         Perform classroom instruction in basic and advanced computer 
applications that include but are not limited to Assistive Devices, 
Hardware/Software Vocabulary, Word Processing, Spreadsheets, E-mail, 
Intranet/Internet, Instant Messenger, Anti-Virus Programs, CD ROM, Networks, 
Presentation Programs, Operating Systems, On-line searches, Multimedia, 
Computer Assisted Design Programs, Databases, File Service, File Sharing, 
Printing, Desktop Publishing, Fax Programs, Communications Programs, Back Up 
Programs, etc.

·         Prepare lesson plans based on curricular guidelines.

·         Document student progress daily.

·         Maintain all required records and prepare necessary reports.

·         Provided information and consultation to consumers and educators 
about assistive technology services.

·         Maintain demographic database on all assistive technology 
services.

·         Coordinate instructional technology training events.

·         Handle special projects related to assistive technology services 
as needed.

·         Coordinate assistive technology loan library program.

·         Must be able to lift, carry, deliver, and set up computers and 
other related devices to consumers.

·         Continue personal and professional growth in Assistive Technology 
and related disciplines through review of professional literature, research, 
and conferences.

·         Extensive travel is required.

·         Perform other duties as assigned.



SALARY:      $28,114 - $42,369    Scale MS    Rank 68

                        Direct deposit is required.

This is an exempt position, and is not subject to overtime or compensatory 
provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
