Hello All:

I need your help again. I'm working with someone who is running Windows
XP, JAWS 7 and is having an unusual problem in Outlook Express and
Internet Explorer.

What will happen is this. He can type into the "to:", "CC:" and
"Subject:" boxes in Outlook Express with no problem. JAWS will read
back to him what he has typed and he can go back over it. When he tabs
from the Subject: box into the message area and tries to type something
in, JAWS won't let him go back and read what he has typed. Also, he
tells me he has had a sighted person look at what he's doing and there
are no characters on the screen in the message area.

This same thing happens to him in web forms on the internet. That is,
when he hits enter in JAWS to turn forms mode on and starts to type
something, no characters appear.

I tried to have him send me a Remote Assistance invitation earlier
today, both to see if I can give him remote assistance with JAWS and to
see if he could sent this invitation. When he got to the edit box in
remote assistance where you type in the e-mail address you want the
invitation to be sent too, he typed in my e-mail; I heard JAWS echo each
character. When he hit enter after doing this on the link that says
"invite this person," Internet Explorer gave him an error message saying
"please provide an e-mail address." This proved to me what he was
typing wasn't getting recorded in the edit box.

Two other things. This gentleman has no problem typing in Microsoft
Word; he can type in some information and JAWS can go back over it and
read what he has typed without any problem. Also, he has an older
version of Norton Antivirus, dating back to I believe 2002 he said.
When he and I talk tomorrow, I'm going to have him disable this and then
try typing out a message in Outlook Express to see if this fixes the
problem. If that doesn't work, we're going to take a look at his font
settings.

Does anyone out there have any ideas about other things we should check?
I don't think this is a keyboard or display problem, since things work
in MS Word. I'll be interested in your thoughts.

Thanks,
