Like George says, the biggest problem with SP3 is with HP systems which
have an AMD processor, therefore, you're relatively safe with a Dell.

I ersonally don't see anything in SP3 that would compell me to move up,
but I also don't see any reason not to, assuming that you patch your HP
with an AMD processor. My advice would be to move up when you've got the
time or during your regularly scheduled system maintenance. If you have
an HP with an AMD processor, I'd suggest applying the patch and then
upgrading right away. Otherwise you could run into a situation where SP3
gets installed as part of your automatic updates and your system goes
into a loop where it just reboots constantly.

I found that Jesper Johansson's blog at
http://msinfluentials.com/blogs/jesper/archive/2008/05/08/does-your-amd-based-computer-boot-after-installing-xp-sp3.aspx
is the best source of information on this issue. He even has a script
that will detect the problem and patch your system if necessary.
