Expanding on Steve's note:

You may run into problems by not allowing Flash on your system.
It is software that *must* be on your system for certain applications to 
work and should not be given a negative connotation.
There are a lot of other plug-ins that programs must install on your 
system for them to function properly.
Don't paint such things coming onto your system as something improper 
happening.
That's the way some audio streams, as an example, can play.
And by blocking pop-ups, you may be protecting yourself but you may also 
find yourself being locked out of some sites that you may want to visit.
There are 2 sides to everything.
